Situated on the banks of the Crocodile River is the north-eastern city of Nelspruit, capital of Mpumalanga province. Acting as a major stopover for visitors travelling to the Kruger National Park, Nelspruit is nestled in a very scenic region of South Africa known as the Lowveld rich with rolling hills and picturesque horizons, as well as the Highveld – slightly further afield but notably majestic with its open plains and unparalleled views. Nearby attractions include the renowned Panorama Route, Blyde River Canyon and of course the Kruger National Park. The 19th century gold rush in the area spurred on development and today the city has a population of around 4 million people. Climate-wise, one can expect mild winters and warm summers when visiting.
